Please be aware of other road users when travelling to and from Talbot Campus, especially if you're using聽the Tiger Crossing on Gillett Road,聽near Boundary Roundabout.
The main difference between a Tiger crossing and a Zebra crossing is that people on bikes get the same priority as pedestrians on the zebra. Although traffic coming off the roundabout can be quite fast so please take care when crossing over.聽
Cyclists
Cyclists should use the separate parallel strip which marked parallel to the pedestrian Zebra crossing. Although cyclists have priority at the crossing, cyclists are advised to reduce their speed when approaching the crossing, in order to give approaching drivers the opportunity to react safely. This will also help to avoid any conflict with pedestrian users on the shared cycle/pedestrian paths at either side of the crossing.
Pedestrians
Pedestrians should use the marked zebra crossing.
Drivers
Drivers approaching the crossing should look well ahead and reduce their driving speed to provide more time to spot approaching pedestrians or cyclists. If pedestrians or cyclists are approaching the crossing, stop your vehicle just before the broken white lining strip to give way. This strip formally permits cyclists to use the crossing alongside pedestrians, with pedestrians and cyclists having the right of way to cross.聽
Footpath and cycle lane onto campus
The footpath and cycle lane, that enters Talbot Campus from Wallisdown Road and emerges at the back of Christchurch House, has been widened and has now reopened.聽There are some associated works to the new cycle lane and the footpath on the opposite side to this route which still need to be completed. Please follow the signed diversion routes when using this route to/from campus.
These works are taking place to improve safety for both pedestrians and cyclists.
