Why is it important for me, as a student, to fill in the census?
The census is an important survey that happens once every 10 years and gives the Office for National Statistics (ONS) a snapshot of all the people and households in England and Wales. By taking part, you鈥檒l be helping make sure you and your student community get the services needed now and in the future. The information you give informs decisions that affect student life, such as聽university campus bus links and bike lanes,聽jobs聽and training. Therefore,聽it is key that you complete the form for your university address, even if you are not currently living there.聽
How to complete your census
If you鈥檙e currently living at your university address, you should have received a letter containing an access code made up of numbers and letters to complete the census online. Visit to complete using your code now. You can also request a new code if you have lost or cannot access your code. Your new code will be sent via SMS.
The ONS understand that your circumstances may have changed during the coronavirus pandemic.聽If you are not currently living at your university address and cannot access your code, you need to request a new one online. Your new code will be sent via SMS.
If you鈥檙e currently living at home, you need to be included on your household census questionnaire as well as completing one for your university address.
